My 9 year old daughter needs a science fair project idea that can help someone. it has to contain a simple machine and at least 100 nuts, bolts, screws, nails, etc.

Hello kpetipas,
Welcome to the Ask an Expert forums. Does you daughter's project have to use 100 bolts, nails, screw, and nuts? Or does it only need to use 100 pieces? I wonderful if something like this Project Idea about earthquake engineering might work:
https://www.sciencebuddies.org/science- ... p013.shtml. This project doesn't exactly use a simple machine, but it definitely has applications that would help someone.
Another option is to use the engineering design process to specify a need, and then build a simple machine that can fill that need. The engineering project guide (see link below) walks you step by step through this process.

The need you seek to fill doesn't need to be grandiose - something as simple as lifting a certain number of blocks would be perfectly acceptable. Also, keep in mind that screws are themselves simple machines. So, if your project involves screws, then it automatically involves a simple machine.
