Dear Ashiqa-Shamsuddeen,

As a retired electrical engineer, let me say that I worked for a company that produced a product. I helped to design the product and that product was then sold to their customers and they made a profit which they shared with me as salary and bonuses. Therefore, I helped create wealth for my company as well as myself.

However, a pure mathematician usually works for a university and writes and teaches but does not create wealth. Hence, it's hard to believe that he would make as much income as an engineer who applies mathematical principles to a product.

That is my take on your question. I hope that helps.
