Science Buddies: "Ask an Expert"

Hi,

I am in 12th grade and have to work towards my final exams. One of them will be a presentation. The exact topic is not relevant, but I will talk about hydraulic fracturing.
One requirement is to conduct an experiment.
Is there any experiment to show how hydraulic fracturing works? I've already searched the internet for something like this, but I couldn't find anything good.
If there is, can anyone tell me how to prepare and perform it?

You have chosen a very interesting topic. Hydraulic fracturing has certainly generated some enthusiastic support as well as some controversy particularly because of environmental concerns. This technique uses some highly toxic chemicals. Will you have access to a science lab and a science teacher to help you?

Have you searched the internet using search words such as "how to demonstrate how hydraulic fracturing works"?

You might also search the Science Buddies "Science Fair Project Ideas". Searching for "Hydraulic Fracturing" does not turn up any projects, but searching for "oil sands" does. Looking at these projects might help you get ideas for actually conducting an experiment in this area which can be done safely in a science lab.
