Science Buddies: "Ask an Expert"

Hi, I have been looking all over the internet for some pre-written informed consent forms for fingerprinting for a science fair project I'm doing (whether or not fingerprints are inherited). Maybe a sample that has the potential risks and benefits already written. But again, I'm looking for something dealing with fingerprinting consent for a science project. I'm trying to see some examples of what I should write on my consent form that I will use. Anyone have any ideas where I might find something similar to this?

Please keep all your posts together in a single thread so we can see what has already been asked and answered with regard to your project.

I think that you will have to use a general consent form and modify it for your project. Does your school have a digital standard consent form available? I searched for standard consent forms online and found one offered by the Intel Science Talent Search: https://student.societyforscience.org/r ... esources-1
You should be able to use this as a template. Add your own part about the fingerprints being coded so that the person’s identity is kept secret and delete any text that is irrelevant to your project.

As Madeline said, the science fair’s Scientific Review Committee will usually want to check the form and approve your proposal before you can proceed. When you talked to the people at Wesleyan U did they give you instructions about how to get approval for your project?

Thank you! I am homeschooled so no we don't have any consent forms , but I found one online from a public school that I am planning on using. Yes, I did get in touch with the SWU science fair coordinators and this project is ok, I answered that in the other thread.
