What your teacher is suggesting is that you research phototropism. In essence, plants tend to grow towards a light source since they need light to make food. In addition to checking out the Science Buddies project "Plants on the Move!" (https://www.sciencebuddies.org/science- ... p041.shtml) you should also look up "phototropism" in a search engine. You'll find all sorts of ideas for projects. You may not be able to check ALL plants, but you should be able to try a good selection of plants and see how they react to light.

Good luck with your project!

Hi Camila and welcome to Scibuddies. We’ll try to help you but I don’t know what project your teacher had in mind.

Did you ask the teacher where to find instructions for a project on the topic of “Do all plants seek light”?
There is a project on Scibuddies about the movement of plants towards light which is called phototropism: https://www.sciencebuddies.org/science- ... ml#summary but this project does not answer the question “Do all plants seek light?” That sounds more like something you would research online and write a report about rather than something you could do experiments with. You could hardly test every plant to see if it moved towards light!

There are projects that test the effect of the length of time of lighting on phototropism and also the effect of the color of light. All plants have chlorophyll and use light of certain colors to photosynthesize so it is logical to assume that they would ‘seek’ light by moving towards a light source.

See if you can get some more information about what you are expected to do with this topic. Do other students in your class have different topics? What are they doing about them?

Post back to this same thread and we will try to help you.
