Science Buddies: "Ask an Expert"

My daughter has been entering the science fair under Earth and Planetary Science category since 5th grade. She is totally a Planetary Scientist and all her projects have been something to do with Mars.

The science fair sent us an update for this year's fair and said there are new categories as defined by ISEF (https://student.societyforscience.org/i ... categories). "Earth and Planetary Science" is now called "Earth and Environmental Science." We don't seem to still fit there.

Astronomy is defined as the study of "anything beyond Earth" -- should we use that?

The ISEF site lists Physics and Astronomy (PHYS) as your best bet, with the subcategory Astronomy and Cosmology. Their definition: The study of space, the universe as a whole, including its origins and evolution, the physical properties of objects in space and computational astronomy.

I'd say that's your category. Best of luck to your daughter!
