Hi Pranshu!
I'm not very sure that I understand exactly what you're asking, but from what I've read it seems like you're curious about why scientists started using biomass as a source of energy rather than using non-renewable sources of energy. We've actually been producing biogas for a very very long time like when we use wood to build camp fires. Using renewable energy sources is much better for our environment than using non-renewable sources because non renewable energy sources are made of carbon. This is partially why they're called non renewable because when they are burned they produce carbon based compounds or greenhouse gases such as CO2, rather than eventually replenishing. Greenhouse gases form a sort of blanket hovering above our world, and trapping heat. Although this once may have been a great thing, without it our world wouldn't be warm enough for us to survive, now so many greenhouse gases have been released after the industrial revolution that our world is slowly becoming too warm! Ice caps and glaciers are melting possibly leading to land actually sinking, like Shanghai! Renewable sources of energy such as biomass can actually be replenished and reused....like energy recycling! They have also helped avoid one of the most prominent issues we're trying to solve in the world today, global warming, because they don't produce greenhouse gases when reacted :D I hope this answered your questions. If it didn't please let us know so we can help you as much as possible!

Hi Pranshu,

It's great that you are interested in ways to use biomass, all the waste plant and animal material, to generate fuels such as ethanol and biodiesel. As Roya said this will help to relieve the stress on our environment and our dependence on non-renewable oil and gas reserves.

Scibuddies is here to help you develop a doable science project around your interests. What sort of project were you thinking about? It is a good idea to involve us in planning your project so we can help you design the best experiments to test your hypothesis. If you haven't already done so be sure to read and understand the Scibuddies Project Guide, https://www.sciencebuddies.org/science- ... ndex.shtml

The Guide tells you about how to research a topic online, select an area to study, write a workable hypothesis, design experiments to test the hypothesis and statistically test your results. Don't skip this as these are the critical tools that all scientists use in their research.

When you need help with the details or are having trouble understanding the science, our team of experts are here to answer your questions and steer you along the way to a great science project.

Good luck!
