Effect of Microwave radiation on radish seed

I am doing the effect of microwave radiation of radish sees.
I've microwaved five sets of 8 seeds for 0,5,10,15,30 seconds. Then i have planted them in seed starter soil. All of my seeds germinate in 4 days, showing that microwave radiation didn't effect them. Should I microwave the seeds for longer period of time, so i can see the effect of microwave radiation. Please help.
Thanks

Hey there!

Great project! And very astute observations thus far. The times you have microwaved it should be just about long enough to start seeing the stunting of growth. Here is the experiment as set out by science buddies.https://www.sciencebuddies.org/science- ... #procedure

So, there are two possibilities as to what is going on here. It is possible that your particular seeds are hearty enough to endure the shorter times. But, there is a second thing that could be happening. What about the way you are radiating the seeds? What is different about microwaves other than the size or color of them? Take a bit to think about that and the unit of power associated.

As with all experiments, trial and error are key! That is the best part about them--you can always adjust. Try doubling the times and give it another whirl!! If that doesn't work...triple. Just remember to read over the safety guidelines before doing so!!

Have fun, and feel free to contact us back if other questions come up.
