I might need a bit more specificity though on where you are becoming confused.
Perhaps if this equation was explained a different way?
Q = Quantity of Heat (Released or Absorbed). Joules, calories or Btu.
m = Mass (grams) of substance being heated, cooled or changing state.
C = Specific Heat Capacity (J/g/°C; cal/g/°C; Btu/lb/°F).
(Also, Molar C = Molar Heat Capacity J/mol.K (or °C).
ΔT = Difference in Temperature.(ΔT°C; or ΔT°F).
