Hi my name is Dylan, if you don't mind I would like to ask you a few questions about my science fair project.(Turning Milk Into Plastic.)

1.) Is it a chemical reaction that causes the milk to turn into plastic with the casein?

2.) What is the smallest unit of a polymer?

3.)Can you make plastic out of soy milk? Why or why not?

Thank you for your time:
Dylan Younblood

Hi Dylan,

Many of these questions are answered in the "Background" section of the project idea, which you can find here:

https://www.sciencebuddies.org/science- ... background

Briefly, however, here are some answers to your questions:

1). Yes, the process involves chemical reactions.
2). A molecule is the smallest unit of a polymer.
3). Soy milk does not contain casein, so you cannot make plastic out of soy milk using this procedure.

Post back if you have other questions.
