Hi,

I'll try and help you before your project is due.

It is easier to work in grams so lets convert the volume from 16.9 oz to grams: http://www.convertunits.com/from/oz/to/gram+%5Bwater%5D

I did the conversion and it comes out to half a liter. To calculate the salinity to parts per thousand (ppt) all you have to do is double the amount of salt you added in grams to the 500 mL of water to get the amount per 1000 mL (almost identical to 1000 g), which is ppt.

Hope this makes sense. If you have more questions, post again and i will get right back to you.

Good luck!
