I am testing what water temperature causes an Alka-Seltzer tablet give off gas more quickly. I would like to test 3 water temperatures; cold, room temp and hot. What specific temps would you suggest for each?

Hello sullivan725,

Chemical reaction rates approximatgely double when the temperature is increased by 10 degrees C. So you should be able to observe an effect if you choose water temperatures at least 10 degrees C apart.

My suggestion is to choose conditions that are easy to replicate with the equipment you have available. Your cold condition could be ice water (0 C), and your hot set up could be hot tap water (45 C). Room temperature would be about 22 C.

I hope this helps and good luck with your project. Please post again if you have more questions.
