To charge a battery, the VOLTAGE of the charger has to be higher than the voltage of the battery. To get higher voltage from an array of solar cells, connect the cells in series. To get higher current, connect the cells in parallel. If you have a 12 volt battery, you will probably require about 14 volts to charge it. I hope you have an accurate voltmeter. If not, borrow one.

okay, Thank you!! and also, what if i only need 24 volts, but the chargers give 40 volts? will that do anything to my battery?. and also, will anythiing hapen to the battery if i leave the solar panels out all night? and do i need a voltage converter?
