Science Buddies: "Ask an Expert"

Hi,
I have come across a question for my science fair. My topic is how much iron is in your cereal. The title is Mag-nificent breakfast cereal.
I am confused on how to write a hypothesis for this kind of question. I know that I need to back it up with background research but I don't understand what research would help with this.

It looks like you still need a manipulated variable. What are you planning to change in your experiment? Maybe you could measure the amount of iron across different types of cereals. In that case your hypothesis should predict which types of cereals have more iron than the others. What information you use to back up your claim should be about why you predicted what you did. For example, why did you think one cereal brand had less iron than the other cereal brand? Was it because it was more colorful? Why would color affect iron content? This is where the research comes in.
