Pushing with the same force

As part of my son's science fair project, he needs to push a bicycle rim to get it spinning. Is there any way for him to push the wheel or get the wheel spinning with the same amount of force each time he does it?

Hello mschulte,
Can the spinning wheel be mounted on the bike? If so, you could build a simple stand to hold the bike so that the rear wheel is elevated. Mount a weight on one of the pedals. Rotate the weighted pedal to the 1:00 position then release it. You may need to experiment with the amount of weight to use. And if you are using a bike with multiple gears on the rear wheel, you might try different gears to see which yields the spin that you want. This should be a repeatable way to apply the same force to the wheel.
I hope this helps. Please post again if you have more questions.
