Science Buddies: "Ask an Expert"

How would life change if Earth spun just a little faster: creating a 23 hour day instead of 24? Use your imagination. How would a faster spinning Earth impact the weather? Seasons? Plants and animals? Would hummingbirds be more effected by a faster Earth than, say, grizzly bears? What about blue whales? Apples? Oranges?

How would a slightly faster Earth affect people? Our sleeping cycles and moods? What would walking feel like? Sports? Try to support your theories with real scientific concepts.

Assuming a 23 hour Earth is different from our current one, which aspects of life are you most interested in knowing about? The ones above, or something else? Be specific.

Welcome to Science Buddies. Are you trying to help a student with a science project? This purpose of this forum is to answer questions about science fair projects for students in K through 12th grade.

Your question is a fascinating topic and would make an excellent topic for investigation on circadian rhythm. It might be possible to use an invertebrate like the penultrimate crab that is most active at 11 pm to study the effects of a 23 hour day. This would be a very challenging, but unique project.
