Science Buddies: "Ask an Expert"

Hello, I am currently choosing my topic for my extended essay (IB DP). (for those who are not familiar with the Extended essay, it is basically a 4000 words essay) I am interested in investigating how winglets affect the performance(or efficiency). I would need to collect quantitative data and develop a mathematical model for how winglets would affect the performance.

Therefore, my question is: What should I read and what information do I need? And what kind of data can I collect to prove my hypothesis? ( I am currently taking IB HL Maths and Further HL Maths). Can anyone give me some suggestions ? Thanks
