"What is the Effect of Water on Electricity?"

Hi, my name is Zack and I'm an incoming freshman in a high ranking school. I'm doing an experiment with a title similar to the one as shown in this post. If anyone would be such a fantastic, great help, I could use it. Can anyone please tell me how exactly I can incorporate more aspects into this experiment to extend how long it will take? My science director said that she found no testing variables, either, so how may I add any if possible? Thank you for the help.

Much appreciated,
Zackary Silva

Hi Zack,

You’ve chosen an interesting topic with many possibilities for experimentation! But your topic is very broad and you’ll need to narrow it down to a specific experiment that you want to do. Water might have several effects on any of several different aspects of electricity. You might think about what effect you want to experiment with. There are several projects on the Science Buddies site that are related to water and electricity. Reviewing these may help you decide on an experiment or you may find that one of these projects fits with your interests.

Review of the information at the following links may help you with narrowing down your topic and with developing a hypothesis for your experiment.

I hope this helps. Please post again if you have more questions.

Hi Norman,

I accidentally typed in the wrong title. My main question is, "what is the effect of electricity on the acidity of water?"

Hi Zack,

Great, you’ve already narrowed it down! There’s a Science Buddies project on how electricity changes pH at the following link.

https://www.sciencebuddies.org/science- ... ml#summary

The “Make It Your Own” section has some suggestions for extending the project. For example, you might experiment with different voltages to observe the effect on pH.

I hope this helps. Please post again if you have more questions.
