Chemistry experiments that can go badly wrong

Dear Experts,
I'm a novelist working on a story where one of the main protagonists is a chemistry researcher who, without any pedagogical experience, finds herself teaching a class in 11th grade. Under her guidance they conduct an experiment in the lab that goes badly wrong and sets the room on fire. I'm looking for a suitable experiment that would be credible to be conducted in a school setting, but that could also go badly wrong if not properly handled. Ideally, it also has to be visually interesting/spectacular.
I very much apologize if this is the wrong place to post this question but would appreciate enormously your ideas.
Thank you in advance for your time and help.
Johan
