Science Buddies: "Ask an Expert"

I was thinking about looking at the effectiveness of different SPF's of sunblock by how it effects the fermentation of yeast. By seeing how much CO2 is produced after a certain length of time. As I read that the more UV light yeast gets the greater the rate of fermentation. I was wondering if this would actually work and also if this was a suitable experiment for biology.

I think this is a suitable experiment for Biology but I think you should ponder it a little more.

For example, how do you plan on using sunscreen with the yeast? How are you measuring CO2? What type of apparatus might you need for this?

If you have feasible answers to these questions then I think it might work. But you should also think about all the possible outcomes from this experiment and what conclusions you would draw in each scenario. We can discuss this further if you want. I hope this was helpful!
