Questions: Stroop Effect Science Fair Project

Hello,
I am here to ask questions about the stroop effect and warped words for me and my partner's science fair project. I am in the 9th grade, and our science fair question is,"How do Warped Words affect/interfere with the Stroop Effect?". First of all, I was wondering if the stroop effect actually affects us on a daily basis? If so, how does it affect us? Secondly, how can we use the stroop effect in the real world to help others; psychologically, mentally, etc. Next, I am curious to how warped words are related to the stroop effect, if at all. Lastly, is any type color blindness (mild or severe) at all caused or related to the stroop effect and how? I would absolutely appreciate it if anyone could respond whenever they get the chance.
Thank you very much,
Tytus

Hi Tytus,

Welcome to Science Buddies!

I think you are doing this excellent project from this website, or perhaps a variation of it. .

https://www.sciencebuddies.org/science- ... background

The purpose of this forum is to answer questions and provide advice for doing science fair projects. I am not a subject expert in the Stroop effect, so I need to refer you to the background section pf this project idea to answer your specific questions. Please check the two references, and I think you will be able to answer the questions. If you don’t find answers, let me know, and I will see if I can find the answers from literature references.

I do want you to be successful with your project, so I have some questions for you:
1. What is your exact project question, and how will your experiment answer the question?
2. What is your independent variable? What is your dependent variable?
3. Since you will be working with human test subjects, what will you do to control other parameters in your experiment (except the independent variable)?

Thanks Donna,
Here are the answers to your questions:
1. How do warped words affect the stroop effect? Our experiment will answer the question by showing a comparison of the time it will take to say a word with the stroop effect that is warped and when it is not warped.
2. The independent variable is the people that we test and the dependent variable is the words we test the people with.
3. I do not really know.

Thank you,
Tytus
