Science Buddies: "Ask an Expert"

Hello,
I was wandering what it takes to "clone" an animal, plant etc. I know it involves DNA extraction, but I don't know what to use or how to do it. I have an idea for a science project about the genes of different breeds of a kind of animal.
If I could have any help or suggestions on this topic please answer.
