Using Different Salts as Catalysts

I have been doing the experiment Water to Fuel to Water (https://www.sciencebuddies.org/science- ... cell.shtml).

As a part of the procedure, the main objective of the experiment was to prove that cobalt nitrate was the most efficient catalyst, but silver nitrate is yielding 123-150% efficiency, while cobalt nitrate yields only 65%. If the data is correct, then why is this?
Also, what other salts can be used in this reaction? Will any nitrate salt work? Is it sufficient to test only two salts or should an additional one be tested in order to prove the reaction's validity?
