Science Buddies: "Ask an Expert"

One of the question that has stuck to me is the question similar to the one stated above: How does the body know when to secrete insulin or glucagon? Do beta cells and alpha cells have a sort of glucose detectors, and if so how can these cells differentiate between high concentration and low concentration of blood glucose levels?
