I am going to use my bass guitar and my tuner to measure hertz (sound frequency). I need a variable that will distort the sound (heat, wind etc...) the problem is my teacher says it can't be something that a middle schooler would be able to do. I'm in 9th gr. honors science. If you happen to have another topic that would work well, that would be appreciated too. I know a lot about frequencies thanks to this page http://mathforum.org/library/drmath/view/52312.html. But what i really need is an advanced question/experiment that i can create a hypothesis for.
Thanks,
Jake

Superball,

You could look at the different resonances produced by stirngs made of different materials. You could then apply heat to the strings and see which material has the most change in hertz. If you need more help, feel free to ask!

Hi Terik,

Thanks for your help on this bulletin board item. Thursday was my day staffing the bulletin board, and I'm glad you responded.
