Help Finding Senior Year Project

Hello!
I am trying to find a science fair project and I am in 12 grade taking AP Biology. My teacher wants us to have "college level" projects, but I must say, I am NOT very good at this sort of creativity.

So far I am very interested in this project: "Taking Short Cuts: How Direct Reprogramming Can Transform One Type of Cell Straight into Another"
https://www.sciencebuddies.org/science- ... ml#summary

The only problem is that my teacher is requiring that we identify independent variables, dependent variables, and how they will/will not effect the results. I can't seem to understand how this project would have these characteristics as it is entirely based on information from a database.

I am also considering this project: "How Vines Find Their Spines: Thigmotropism in Morning Glory Tendrils"
https://www.sciencebuddies.org/science- ... #materials

I am, however, concerned that this project will not be as advanced as she will require.

Could you please either help me determine the required elements of the first project or help me brainstorm ways to make the second more advanced?

Thank you!

Hello and thank you for your patience in waiting for a response to your post!

This project guide might help you identify the independent and dependent variables:

As for selecting an advanced project, look at the section "Make it your own." Those suggestions might help you to modify the project so that it is more challenging. Also be sure to follow the links given in the summary and introduction to the published reports. Usually, a published report will end with a discussion and suggestions for further research.

Let us know if one or both of these suggestions helps you find a senior year project that you will find challenging and rewarding.
