Science Buddies: "Ask an Expert"

Hi I am just wondering if anyone could help me with an idea. I have an assignment to do for Uni which will be to create an investigation for year 11 students. The investigation will be based on this - 'Design and undertake an investigation related to the survival of an organism or species, and draw conclusions based on evidence from collected data'. Now I went and bought agar plates as I wanted to look at bacterial growth on household items, but realise it needs to be more specific than that. So I am wondering if anyone would have any ideas where I could still use my agar plates? I liked the idea of maybe looking at (because obviously Im limited with what I have access to) putting raw chicken on the agar plates which have had different strengths of disinfectant added to them and looking at the bacterial resistance to the disinfectant? (adopted from a project idea on here). Does that sound like it may work? Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

Shedding light on the importance of understanding antimicrobials is a great way to use these agar plates! Maybe having them cough on the plates and seeing how various disinfectants will affect microbial growth after 24-28 hours (depending on whether or not you have access to a 37C incubator). I think your idea is solid and you should definitely go for it!
