Basically, the idea for my science fair project is to test if E. coli will develop antibiotic resistance to a variety of drugs that I'm using. But the question is, as the zone of inhibition is a qualitative test that I will be using to measure this, is there a maximum diameter for what constitutes as resistance to that antibiotic? I would really greatly appreciate any help for this.

Hi JChen22,

The zone of inhibition test is a quantitative test. There is a minimum diameter for the antibiotic to be considered effective. If the bacteria becomes resistant, there will be no zone of inhibition. You can easily find what these values are on the internet.
