Rovers and Landers

I'm doing a science project on rovers and landers, and i need a few questions to clarify my topic.
1. So I know a rover is a exploration vehicle, but is a lander the same? I'm not too sure if a lander is an exploration vehicle or the thing the lands the rover?
This lander page confuses me a bit.

Does the lander do any exploring or scientific work like the rover?
2. When it talks about landers, is it talking about like the Apollo lander or the mars lander?
3. When a lander lands, is it still functionally or is it broken like an impact probe? Are they the same thing?
4. What could be similar technologies for rovers and landers? I have to compare advantages and disadvantages of similar technologies, but I'm not sure what are similar to rovers and landers.
(EDIT) For #4, I know it may seem as a background question, but I really don't know what could be the same for my topic.
Thank you in advance.
