Science Buddies: "Ask an Expert"

I am doing the acid rain and aquatic life project using snails and duck weed. I didn't see anything mentioned about have to put holes in the container lids. Do I need to put holes in the lids?

The snails have to breathe and the duckweed needs carbon dioxide to photosynthesize, so I would just place the lids on loosely so that air can still get in. You can make holes in the lids but you don't have to if they are loose enough.
