Science Buddies: "Ask an Expert"

I haven't done a science project since 5th grade, and all of the sudden we have to do one again. Naturally, I'm having some trouble remembering some things, including the variables. I know the difference between them, but I can't place the variables in the specific project I'm doing. I'm doing the project on here called 'Calcium Carbonate to the Rescue! How Antacids Relieve Heartburn'.

Does anyone know what the independent and dependent variables would be in this specific project?? I think the control would be the artificial stomach acid with no Tums. But what would the others be?? Thanks in advance!!

An independent variable is something that you as the scientist change in an experiment so that you can observe a response in a dependent variable.

How are you changing the artificial stomach acid in this experiment? That is your independent variable.

What are you measuring after you change the stomach acid? That is your dependent variable.
