how to connect a 12-volt rechargeable lead acid batther

Can you tell me how to connect a 12-volt rechargeable lead acid battery to an appliance? This battery has 2 connections only-one for positive and one for negative. Also, to recharge this battery, do you use the same connections? I would like to power a hair dryer with the 12-volt battery and recharge it with a solar panel.
