grade 7 science fair project about water that is beneficial to the environment

my son decided to do a science project on grey water tolerance on certain plants , but was told that its not original enough and needs to have his own twist.The general topic is water but the content needs to be about benefiting the environment,basically something original.I'm at a loss for ideas,looked at numerous things .Please help.

Have you searched the Science Buddies project ideas database?
Try searching for search terms such as:
“water environment benefit”
Some of those projects involve water, and they all seem to be related to improving the environment.
