solar cars vs. gasoline powered car

Wouldnt it be cheaper and better for the environment if we all used energy saving solar cars instead of gasoline powered cars? Cant solar panels store energy throughout the day to use later on while also using what it is being given? Not thinking about the loss and decrease in jobs, wouldn't that be just a little bit of harm that we give the earth and ourselves taken away? (question born out of curiosity, not really school)
