What units do use if your x and y variables are, feelings induced an number of participants?

The only way I know to quantitate unmeasurable variables like 'feelings' is by using surveys in which you ask people questions that have answers on a scale of 1 to 5 or 1 to 10, with 1 being 'Strongly Disagree' and 5 or 10 being 'Strongly Agree'. You will discuss the answers in terms of psychology, but the scale values can also be used to prove different points in your research.
And, of course, a scale does not have 'units'--it is just a number, but it does reflect a person's feelings about a question and therefore is a valid data point.
