Science Buddies: "Ask an Expert"

Hello,
I am working on an advance science project. I am trying to find out which gases I can use to freeze glass. I am having difficulty finding the gases online. I found articles on Nitrogen and flash freezing food products. Do you know which gas is used to freeze things? Thanks.

Hi Allan,

I'm not sure what you mean by “freezing glass”. But two gases that are commonly used for cooling are carbon dioxide and nitrogen. Neither of these are in the gaseous state when used for this purpose. Solidified carbon dioxide (dry ice) and liquified nitrogen are used for cooling for freezing. More details are available at the following links:
