Science Buddies: "Ask an Expert"

For the cabbage chemistry project, the pH scale in table one does not list which ends represents acid and base. The colors of the scale also does not resemble most pH scales that has red at on end and purple at the other but I'm thinking that is because of the color of the cabbage stock solution. Could you specify which end of the table represent acid and base and if the colors beside the numbers are accurate for this experiment?

When the pH is below 7, it means that the substance is an acid. If the pH is above 7, the substance is a base. Therefore, if the color is red, purple, or violet, the liquid is acidic, and if the color is blue, blue-green, or greenish-yellow, it is basic. I hope this was a help to you, and good luck!
