Science Buddies: "Ask an Expert"

We have been doing an inquiry into salt. While we were carrying out an observational experiment we had used white vinegar as a liquid medium for some of our objects. One object being a rubber band. WOW what we observed was the rubber band had grown over a couple of days while being in the vinegar. But we do not know why?
