Calculating flash point with boiling point

Hello, I am doing a science project on acetones flashpoint. I have discovered that halogenated hydrocarbons and water will increase flashpoint. However, to test this I need to calculate flashpoint. I have discovered that you can find the flashpoint via the boiling point. Does anyone know the formula? If not is there any way to go about this?

Thanks!

Hi Floppyturtle,

Flash points can be estimated from boiling points of some chemical compounds. The following article is a review of available calculation methods, including those related to boiling points:

You seem to be interested in flash points of mixtures and I'm not sure that any of the boiling point calculations apply to mixtures. You may be able to look up flash points for the mixtures you want.

I hope this helps. Please ask again if you have more questions.

A. Norman
