Immune System Model - Why does it work?

There are multiple projects that use an immune system model made from salt, iron filings, and magnets. I am needing to better understand the science behind why that particular model represents the human immune system. What is it about those materials that simulate the body's response to unwanted pathogens. Any explanation or appropriate links to info would be greatly appreciated.

Models are typically used to help illustrate a concept / how things interact and, in the case of an immune system, the capture of the iron filing using magnets is useful to illustrate how antibody captures / latches onto the pathogen. This concept can certainly be illustrated in other ways but these 3 materials are common and can be readily obtained.

Thanks for the reply. My question was specifically about why the salt and iron filings can be used to represent a human immune system. What is it scientifically about salt and iron that make them good materials to model the immune system. Why is it that the way salt and iron react to magnets, can represent the way the immune system would act to pathogens?
