Science Buddies: "Ask an Expert"

1. What is your background with plants?
2. Have you ever tested the effects of caffeine on plants? If so, what happened and if not, what do you think will happen to the plant?
3. Why would a plant reject caffeine in one of the forms I have chosen (coffee, energy drinks and soda), as a way to grow faster?
4. Would giving a plant caffeine in a different form other than liquid be better for the plant? For example coffee beans.
5. Is adding caffeine to the plants diet better than feeding it just water?

If you have questions about a project, please let us know what you're testing, your experiment plan, and what exactly you need help with. These questions look like they're meant for an interview. A scientist with a degree in the field you need answers for, such as in your case, a biologist or botanist (someone who studies plants) would be the most qualified to answer these questions. Try to find a laboratory, state park, garden, or nature preserve. At these locations it should not be difficult to find someone who has the knowledge and experience needed to answer these questions.
