Solubility method 2

I am comparing the solubility of sugar, salt and Epsom salt. I calculated method 1 and its very clear how much of each solute was used but I dont understand method 2. What am I calculating? I have all the weights in grams (saucer, saucer + saturated solution and saucer +crystals). What do I do with these #s?
Thank you
Jaden

Hi Jaden,

This is a cool project. For Method 2 you can calculate the weight of the crystals by subtracting the saucer weight from the saucer+crystals weight. You could also calculate the weight of the water that evaporated from your saturated solution by subtracting the saucer+crystals weight from the saucer+saturated solution weight. Because water weighs 1g per 1ml you can then compare the solubility you calculated from Method 1 to the solubility in Method 2 for each material (sugar, salt and Epsom salt).

Hope this helps!
