Science Buddies: "Ask an Expert"

My child is interested in building a ride on vehicle that would meet the requirements for the maker faire power wheels race. There are a list of requirements and a set budget that are required to build the vehicle. Would completing this project meet the requirements for an engineering design science fair project? The problem would be how to build a vehicle that would meet certain requirements and stay in a specified budget.

To clarify, are you asking if your child could enter the project in a school engineering/science fair project in ADDITION to the maker faire project? If so, what you've described does sound like an engineering project, but it might help to check if the school has specific requirements.
