Science Buddies: "Ask an Expert"

Hi,
I have a student who is conducting the science fair experiment: Which cereal contains more iron. The process requires him to soak the cereal for 5 min. in hot water and then to run a bar magnet through the cereal. We are not having any success. Can you please help me to trouble shoot this problem?

The experimental procedure for preparing the cereals for testing involves more than just soaking the cereal in water, so I want to make sure that your student is using the current project directions from the Science Buddies site.
