Hello,

My son has a science project for sixth grade. It’s from the sciencebuddies.org website. He is testing the amount of minerals in mineral, distilled, and tap water by placing drops of dishwashing soap into bottles and shaking it up to measure how high the bubbles rise. What would be the independent variable?

Hello,

This sounds like a fun project! The independent variable is what is changing between each test. In this case it's the type of water (mineral, distilled and tap). He will have several control variables that will be held constant (type of soap, number of drops of soap, amount of shaking, etc.).

Hope this helps!
