RFID Reader and Tags for Project:Keeping it private

Post by studentloveslearning »

So, on the project Keeping it private you have a product listed for RFID reader and tags to get for the project but when I press the link, it says the product is no longer available. So I’m wondering if there are any other reliable RFID readers and tags kit that I could use in replacement.

Thank You

Hi - this will require some searching on your part. First, you may be able to find the original part from other vendors, like eBay: https://www.ebay.com/itm/324966182117 (that is just the reader, not the sample kit with tags).

Next, it looks like there is another version of the kit still in stock, but it uses serial communication instead of a USB port. You would need to read the manual to learn how to use it: https://www.jameco.com/z/32390-Parallax ... ?CID=MERCH. This might require use of a microcontroller like an Arduino instead of a regular computer. We just updated our Arduino resources, which will help you get started but do not cover RFID: https://www.sciencebuddies.org/science- ... an-arduino

Finally, you could look for an RFID reader from another company. SparkFun Electronics has a lot of good products and tutorials: https://www.sparkfun.com/search/results ... FID+reader. But you would need to follow their directions, the procedure would not match exactly what's in the Science Buddies project.
