Science Buddies: "Ask an Expert"

I am working on this project called Green Technology: Build an Electric Soil Moisture Sensor to Conserve Water. (Link: https://www.sciencebuddies.org/science- ... erve-water)
I purchased the kit from science buddies and assembled the circuit for the project. I have double checked the wiring many times and am sure it is correct. While testing, I noticed that the LED would stay on even if I touch the leads together. I can’t seem to figure out what the problem is. Any suggestions or ideas you have would be greatly appreciated.

Hi - I believe you also emailed us about this, and I replied asking if you can send some new photos, as clear as possible so we can see the circuit on the breadboard clearly. That will help us be able to troubleshoot. Even though you checked the circuit, these errors are very often related to something small in the circuit.

Hi Amy,

As per your reply, I emailed new pictures on Tuesday Nov 8th, and wanted to know if you are able to see the circuit clearly. I did check the circuit connections multiple times and they are correct, so is it possible that the breadboard is defective? Please let me know what you think.
