Hello,
My name is Adriana Andrade, and I am a science teacher at Easton Country Day School, where I am starting a pilot Science Research program for Middle School students.

I am looking for competitions in Connecticut that would be suitable for beginner science research students, particularly in the area of food chemistry. Any guidance or recommendations for appropriate competitions would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you for your assistance.

Best regards,
Adriana Andrade

Hi Adriana -- It is great that you are starting this program for science research with middle school students!

Have you looked into the two local statewide fairs?

I don't know if your students will be doing experiments as part of their research, but you may want to learn more about these:

Connecticut Science and Engineering Fair: https://www.ctsciencefair.org/

CT-STEM Science Fair: https://ctstemfoundation.org/

You may also be interested in this national event -- National STEM Festival: https://www.nationalstemfestival.com/

As you line up the process your students will take, you may find the project guide resources helpful for students: Amy

Dear Amy,

Thank you for your prompt response. The food chemistry experiment led by the master's student is approaching its conclusion. Could you recommend any further specific topics in this field? The rest of the students will either continue or start their projects in the fall. I will take a look at the websites you've shared.

Warm regards,
Adriana

Hi Adriana -- There are a number of food science projects in our library. You may want to browse here. You can adjust the criteria for the search using filters. This search is limited to "high school" right now:

I hope this helps.
