The materials state that a "Science Buddies Electronics Kit for Arduino" is required-does this mean an Arduino is required?

I would strongly recommend using an Arduino, because of its compatibility with the Elechouse Voice Recognition Module V3 and Grove Speech Recognizer. It is possible to use other microcontrollers for this project, but it will make everything harder, because, as I said earlier, the Elechouse Voice Recognition Module V3 and Grove Speech Recognizer were made for Arduino, so if you want to use those with a different microcontroller it would complicate the code.

From what I can see online, the Arduino should come with the kit, so if you got it you should be all set.

So, this means I will need to buy the kit for Arduino, as well as the Arduino itself? What Arduino model would you recommend buying?

Hi - In the "materials" section for the project (https://www.sciencebuddies.org/science- ... olled-lamp), it lists what you will need.

There is an Electronics Kit for Arduino that is sold by our partner, Home Science Tools, and contains an Arduino-compatible board that can be used. If you were using the kit (which can be used for a number of projects), you would need the following elements for this project:

• Arduino-compatible microcontroller board (This is the board you will use)
• USB cable
• Breadboard
• Jumper wires

In addition to those things, the materials list notes the other things you will need for the project, including the Speech recognition module for Arduino, IoT Relay, and a lamp (or other appliance).

Maybe I didn't make my question very clear... I'd like to know if an Arduino is needed for this project (does this project require a microcontroller?).

Yes. And the recommended kit comes with one:

• Arduino-compatible microcontroller board

It doesn't come with an Arduino-branded one. It comes with another brand.
