Science Buddies: "Ask an Expert"

I have a science fair project in February of 2025, I have picked a project that my family and my teacher have approved of but we think it might be to simple for a project that would get placed in the competition. So we are asking for ideas on how to make it more advanced. Ps my idea is below.



Which firewood burns longer, oak,maple,hickory and pine, and which firewood burns the hottest

To make this more complex you could look into the chemistry of each plant. Like the difference in bonds among the plants that contributes to their different burning points. You could also test how the age of each plant affects the burning and what significance this has. A good idea would also be to make connections to the world such as how the different types of burning could contribute to forest fires. Let me know if you have any further questions.
